The air-fryer field guide

Oven-style air fryers

For shoppers comparing shelf-based cooking with a drawer basket. Check usable tray size, rack placement, opening room and cleaning requirements.

Inclusion criteria: For shoppers comparing shelf-based cooking with a drawer basket. Check usable tray size, rack placement, opening room and cleaning requirements. These criteria apply to our documented US catalog; unverified fields do not qualify a model.

A tray-centered workflow is the selection criterion

Breville BOV860 and BOV900 both list Air Fry alongside toast, bake and other oven tasks; BOV900 adds Proof and Dehydrate and is wider at 21.4 inches versus BOV860’s 18.9 inches. Cuisinart TOA-26 is a smaller oven-style unit at 12.5 by 11.5 inches and includes Toast/Pizza as well as Air Fry. Choose for the pans and repeated functions you will use, not a comparison of fabricated basket-quart numbers.

COSORI CAF-R121-SUS is described as a 13-quart air-fryer oven, but volume and tray area are separate measurements. We do not have usable cavity dimensions for every oven model. A wide pan or multi-rack meal must be checked against the exact permitted tray/rack arrangement and door opening.

The price of flexibility is space and component care

An oven-style appliance can consolidate toast and air-fry tasks, but it needs counter depth, height, clearance and room for a door. BOV900’s larger documented exterior may be too much for a restricted counter even when its function list appeals. A single drawer may occupy a different footprint and have fewer racks and walls to clean.

Breville manuals assign functions to rack positions and give component-specific cleaning. Cuisinart TOA-26 has an official manual link, but its exact washable-part details are not reconciled here. Read the manual before using a pan or liner; apparent physical fit is not manufacturer compatibility or food-safety certification.

Make the final choice

Start with your meals: the footprint of a main and side, different temperatures and your willingness to cook more than one batch. Then compare usable counter space, component-cleaning instructions and the official manual.

Price and measured cooking performance are not inputs to this shortlist. Unknown materials, opening envelopes and usable basket area stay unknown. A missing fact is a reason to check that requirement, rather than assume every model is equally suitable.
