THE AIR-FRYER FIELD GUIDE

How to choose an air fryer for the meals you actually cook

A practical buying sequence: meal layout, operating space, cleaning, support and total cost.

Start with a repeatable dinner

Write down two dinners you regularly make, including the main food and side. Decide whether both must finish together and whether you accept cooking a second batch. This is a more useful first filter than choosing the largest advertised quart number.

Our decision method is to match the layout to the meal: one basket for one cooking setting, separate zones when foods need different settings, and an oven format when your own tray or pan is central to the recipe. Check the exact model instructions before assuming a named function can do the job.

Measure before making a shortlist

Record usable counter width, depth and height, then read the manual for ventilation and opening requirements. A body that fits into a recess has not thereby been verified for operation there. Leave operating clearance unknown until the exact manual establishes it.

For two baskets, compare the size of each compartment and the food you want to fit in it. Ninja describes the SL401 as two 5-quart baskets; its 10-quart total is not one uninterrupted 10-quart cooking space.

Compare the ownership details

Make a short checklist: approved cleaning method for each removable part, official manual access, exact replacement basket availability, applicable warranty and the merchant return window. A feature you dislike cleaning may be a poor trade even when the headline capacity looks attractive.

Compare the same model, condition and bundle. The FTC advises checking the total cost, including delivery and fees, and reading deal conditions. Treat a live selling price, a dated manufacturer list price and your maximum budget as three separate numbers.
