THE AIR-FRYER FIELD GUIDE

The air-fryer glossary

Plain definitions for product labels, cooking layouts and measurements.

Advertised capacity

The volume stated by the manufacturer, often in US quarts. It does not tell you how much food fits in a single layer.

Usable cooking area

The measured floor or tray area available to food after allowing for edges and airflow. A better input for single-layer planning than total volume.

Dual basket

Two separate cooking baskets. Total advertised capacity is divided between them; check whether each zone has independent settings.

Flexible divider

A removable partition that changes the layout of a larger cooking drawer. Confirm how the exact model operates with and without it.

Oven style

A shelf or tray cooking chamber, often with a front door. Usable rack positions and tray dimensions matter more than converting oven volume into basket quarts.

Rated power

A nameplate wattage, not the measured energy used by a recipe. Using it throughout a runtime assumes continuous rated draw.

Kilowatt-hour (kWh)

A unit of energy. One kilowatt drawn for one hour uses one kWh. Multiply measured kWh by your tariff to calculate electricity cost.

Operating clearance

Manufacturer-required space around an appliance while it runs. Closed dimensions alone cannot establish whether it can operate in your space.

Opening envelope

The additional room needed to pull out a drawer or open a door fully. This is separate from closed dimensions and ventilation clearances.

A functional coating description. It does not by itself identify the chemistry, the base material or every component in the appliance.

MSRP

Manufacturer suggested retail price. It is a reference price, not necessarily today’s selling price or a historical low.

Lowest-priced 20%

The bottom fifth of a defined eligible current-offer catalog, including boundary ties. It describes position in that sample, not a 20% discount.
